PIC du MIDI de BIGORRE

17 APRIL

The Pic du Midi de Bigorre or simply the Pic du Midi (altitude 2,877 m (9,439 ft)) is a mountain in the French Pyrenees famous for its Pic du Midi Observatory
Today weather was really wonderful with clear blue sky and the drive up to La Mongie was scenic.

To go to the peak, we have to board the cable car at La Mongie. It's a two stages gondola

Pic du Midi are a great tourist lookout. From the top, you can discover and embrace the whole of the Pyrenees, Catalonia to the Basque Country. From east to west, the horizon opens with over 300 km of mountains. From the big terrace, the eye plunges north across the plain to the southwest foothills of the Massif Central. Orientation tables show the main peaks that can be admired in this giant panorama.

After enjoying the panoramic views from the Pyrenees, we descended through mountain side village and head to Lac de Payolle. Ate our self made sandwiches before heading to Pau.

We had  coffee break at Pau and walked around the city.

We continued to drive westward towards the Atlantic Ocean and planned to stay the night  in western coastal town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
