Kudat

4 Sept

Kudat was the first British settlement starting around 1881. The British brought in Chinese labourers and today many Chinese businessmen and trader dominates the commerce.

History of Kudat from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudat

Now it is the biggest town in northern Sabah but in the last few decades it has stagnated while cities like KK and Sandakan has grown.

As I walked around the town today, the Chinese presence is very prominent in the form of sign boards on Chinese eateries and shops. A Chinese temple is also a landmark in Kudat.

But the city appear rather laid back. The buildings are generally old with hardly any new high-rise. The coastal area are even worst, many jetty are broken and in dire need for repair. The boat carcasses and the rubbish in one part of the beach is and deplorable.

And the local market that sell clothing, food and fruits.

So much for my observation of Kudat. Its time to take the trip back to KK. After waiting till 4 pm the disappointed driver could only find 2 passengers to ride back to KK. He lamented that business has been bad. There are times when there were no passengers.

In KK, I bought BBQ chicken wings and satay from the Night Food Centre and ate in the comfort of my room.
