24 Nov 18

From my hotel, we took a public bus to the railway station. We had a quick breakfast of noodle there and took a another public bus to Terracotta Army and it Bing Ma Yong in Mandarin.

Below is a short write up uploaded from China Travel Guide

The Terracotta Army in Xi'an, aka Terracotta Warriors and Horses, is a super large collection of life-size terra cotta sculptures in battle formations, reproducing the mega imperial guard troops of Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259 - 210BC), the first emperor of the first unified dynasty of Imperial China.

Being the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Terracotta Army is no doubt a must-see for every visitor to Xi'an.

Originally the ancient funerary project for Emperor Qin Shi Huang, it is now a live museum, officially named
Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, showing the life stories of the emperor and the once powerful Qin Empire (221 – 207BC) in those days of pomp and vigor.

Emperor Qin Shihuang (259 - 210BC), the first emperor of China, commanded the construction of the grand Terracotta Army to guard him in his afterlife after he ascended the throne. The prime minister Li Si at that time was the designer of this grand construction, and the senior general Zhang Han was nominated as the supervisor in charge. Workers included artisans from central government workshops, potters from folk workshops, as well as some unknown potters.

The above terracotta are found in Pit 1. Beside this live museum there are another to museum call Pit 2 and Pit 3 where other related objects were excavated around this area.
