Tawau

21st Oct

Tawau is a city that like Singapore in the 60s and 70s. Bustling with people engaging in commercial activities like town centre anywhere in the world does. Streets are crowded with cars and the roads are quite well  maintained and kept tidy.

This morning I walked around Tawau. It's like going back to the 60s and 70s in Singapore. The biggest market is Pasar Tanjong Tawau where fresh local produces, groceries as well as abundant supply of dried and seasoned sea food are sold.

Next to this market is the fishing port. The smell of fish and the accompanying stench are unmistakable. Fishing boats unloaded their catches here. They are traded over the shipside or send directly to the adjacent fish market.

Along the coastline is a paved concrete waterfront, lined up with rainforest trees for leisure activities. There are hardly any souls walking here in the mid morning. It's a quiet place to enjoy in solitude while watching the fishing boats anchored off the seafront.

There's a majestic mosque at the end of the waterfront.

Sea food is cheap and fresh.
