This morning, I took a 2 hours train ride to Cha-Am on a third class coach. The cost of the ticket is 24 Bahts. The train is pretty clean and spacious with overhead stowage for small luggage. 24 Bahts is hardly S$1 for a two hours ride. On arrival I took a 5 min motorcycle taxi that cost be 50 Bahts. What an anomaly.
Cha-am lies about 20 km north of Hua Hin, formerly an imperial capital of Siam. It is very evident that Cha-am lies in the tourist belt. The overseas tourists are overwhelmingly older European. But my observation is the majority of the tourists here are local affluent Thais.
This place is known for miles of endless sandy beach facing the gulf of Thailand. Its seafood here is particularly popular to all tourists. A long rows of seafood vendors stretch along this straight sea fronting road. They vendors only display their raw seafood. But the food is served under rows of tents with beach chairs and tables. Almost all the patrons using the beach tents are Thais. The foreign tourist prefer in dine in bars and cafés.
There entire length of Cha-am beach come with beach umbrella with table and beach chairs. Foods are served and ordered from vendors just across the road. Seafood are the most popular. Most of the customers are locals.
The beaches are beautiful and very nice and clean sand.
