I started early this morning. Walked to Miri old city mostly populated by Chinese. As far as I feel, this is just a commercial city that supports the agricultural land around it. When oil production started in the 70’s, it was also nicknamed the oil capital of Sarawak.
Food Centre where many people had their breakfast
I walked to the wet market. It wasn’t crowded. But there’s a hawker centre adjacent to it and was very crowded. I had Fried Kway Teow and coffee which cost less than S$2. Around the market, there are also many indigenous marketing their home grown vegetables and fruits.
Nearby was a grand and colourful Chinese temple. There were so many worshippers observing the Hungry Ghost Festival.
Before noon, I had walked most of Miri City. It’s slow moving and I may say boring.
There’s is an Old Citizens Street. It’s actually a Hugh hawker centre with coffee shops on both sides. I had coffee and toast. True to it’s name, many older folk sat there with friends and chatting away. I also notice most of the Chinese read the Chinese newspaper. This is very uncommon in Singapore.
Away from the town centre along the beach, remains an old malay village on stilts and a mosque nearby
Dinner is cheap. I had fried Manis with egg, clay pot curry fish slices and a hot drink for just S$10.
