CHINA-JIUZHAIGOU-D2 - MAY 2006

 CHINA JIUZHAIGOU MAY 2006

 Day 2

10 May 2006

Mianyang to Jiuzhaigou Valley.

It was a very lond and arduous bus journey of over 9 hours and we stopped by some places of interest. The roads after Mianyang were winding, cutting through valleys and mountains. On  higher mountains, there was still snow. On one of the mountain, we stopped by to enjoy the snowfall.

Li Bai Memorial is located on Jiangyou, north of Mianyang. One of the most famous poets in China, Li Bai (701 -762AD) was fond of lingering among scenic spots with mountains and waters to get inspirations for his poems. Many of his artworks, painting, calligraphy and writing were displayed in this museum.

Our next stop was Boaen Temple is further north of Jiangyou in Pinywu County. This is a 15th century well preserved Buddhist monastery complex.

After this temple, we continued on our drive north over the Minshan and through valleys to Jiuzhaigou. There was a point when the bus drove over a mountain more than 4000m above sea level. Obviously you felt the lack of oxygen. The snow on the mountains had yet to melt. There was a memorable snowfall during our drive.

We arrived at Sheraton Resort and Hotel in the night and stayed there for the next few days.
