Sham my neighbour/colleague/friend joined me for a his long awaited home coming trip to Betong where he was born and Kampong Tasek in Perak was his second home after his dad move away from the communist is Betong

We rented a car around noon from Ipoh Airport and drove to Pengkalan Hulu formerly known as Kroh where the Thailand Malaysia border is just a few minutes north. 

Stopping by the town of Gerik for a quick lunch before heading to the Malaysian Immigration.

As it is troublesome to drive the car into Thailand due to insurance and permit, we parked at a designated car park near Malaysia Custom. A taxi took us to the immigration.

At the other end of the immigration, readily available Thai taxi brought us through the Thai immigration and took us on a 10 minute drive to Sweet Home Hotel in Betong. It was almost 5 pm 

My friend literally walked through memory lanes, visiting his childhood home and the vicinity he used to play. He managed to speak to a few childhood neighbours.

Betong is a small town with a very large Chinese and Muslim Malays population beside the Thais. It is well known for Chinese Hakka food. This town is quite dependent on tourism. We walked around the town and the prominent landmark here is the Betong Clock Tower.
