NEW ZEALAND SOUTH ISLAND DAY 12 , NOV 1999

NEW ZEALAND SOUTH ISLAND

Day 12

30 Nov 1999

It was a long drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound. But the route was scenic and serene. The South Island is endowed with natural beauty.

In Milford Sound, we took a cruise to view the beautiful sound; the torqoise and bluish water was calm reflecting light like a mirror. It was surrounded by steep mountains and elegant waterfall.

The waterfalls and the rainbow.

The roads on the South Island are narrow and winding, cutting through valleys and mountains.

They are many beautiful rivers flowing by the road side with large boulders and stones beautifully carved out by nature.

NEW ZEALAND SOUTH ISLAND DAY 11 , NOV 1999

NEW ZEALAND SOUTH ISLAND

Day 11

29 Nov 1999

From Wanaka Town, we drove to Queenstown, the tourist capital of South Island. Along the way, we stopped by Arrowtown, a historic gold mining town near Queenstown. In the old days, Arrowtown had a Chinese settlement for miners. They lived in very harsh condition. The huts were small and make of stones.

Our next stop was a surprise stop. It was AJ Hackett Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge Bungee Jump. I only intended to show them the bungee jump. To my surprise, Ying was very interested to do the jump. After checking out that she met the height and weight requirement, she proceeded straight to the ledge. Mother was very resistant and reluctant. It must be the jump of her life.

                                                  Ready for the jump

                                                                  The daring jump

Dazed after the jump

We drove to Queenstown where we stayed at Alpine Sun Motel. On the way there, we had a scenic and panoramic view of Queenstown from the surrounding hills.

Our next activity was 90 minute horse riding in the late afternoon. It was a fun adventure.

In Queenstown, we stayed at Alpine Sun Hotel
