Portugal Day 7, Sep 2024

26th Sept 2024

Day 7

Belmonte to Evora

The driving time was about 3 hours over hilly terrain and winding roads. There were vineyards and sheep farms along the route. Many villages perched on the mountain slope.

Vila Velha de Rodao was our first stop. A sleepy and lifeless small town. We had coffee here.

Next stop was the historic town of Nisa. The town centre and the old buildings and streets were well preserved. Like any Portuguese town, the Church is the most dominant structure in the town centre.

Castelo de Vide was next stop. It was and impressive town with churches and many eateries. We had our lunch here.

On the hill top is a medieval castle built around 1300. Many parts of the castle are in ruined.

Driving up the steep narrow cobbled stone lane that allowed only one car to squeeze through is really challenging.

View of the town and surrounding from the castle is stunning and panoramic.

Driving in the rain to Evora. Along the way, there was many cattle and sheep farm. Olive orchards also dotted along the our driving route.
.

Our accommodation in Evora was on an old ranch. It's spacious and is now an olive orchard.
