Ly Son Island.

It's a volcanic island with 3 extinct volcanic craters, 30 km on the east coast of Vietnam. The island is dry and the water around are crystal clear with reef and clear turquoise beaches. There are caves, cliffs and  amazing rock formation.

"To Vo Gate" is a landmark that every visitor must go.

Thoi Loi Mountain is 149 metres over looking  a giant crater and give a breathtaking view of the Ly  Son Island

The flat field together with sandy and volcanic soil are suitable for garlic cultivation. It is a beautiful sight to see plots and plots of green garlic field.

Monument and museums on Ly Son Island

The island has dozen of Buddhist Temples, shrines, Pagodas as well as very impressive cemetery tombstones. Many temples are located in caves.

Local are mainly engaged with garlic farming or fishing.

Ly Son Town

To view so much in a short time as well as  going to hill top can only be possible on motorcycle. I used a motorcycle taxi and he enthusiastically showed me all the places of interest.

Now the details of getting into and out of Ly Son Island

I took the earliest bus from Sa Huynh at 5 am to return to Quang Ngai. It was still dark at the bus stop.

Next, I hopped onto a taxi to take me to Sa Ky Port. Just made it in time for the first ferry to Ly Son at 0730. As the service had been suspended for 2 days, the ferry pier was very busy and crowded with people and goods.

When the ferry arrive at Ly Son jetty, the scene was chaotic but the local have no problem with loading and unloading of cargoes.

The journey is 50 minutes, and the ride was not pleasant at all. The waves was rocking and rolling the ferry.

Today fair weather provides a small window of opportunity to get into Ly Son. With rough sea forecasted for the next few days. I decided on a day trip and booked a return ticket on the same day. expected the ferry to be suspended anytime.

The ride on the return journey was surprisingly pleasant. Even though the boarding was worrying as the ferry was not stable and rolling badly.  There was no proper gangway at all and each passengers was assisted by 3 attendants for safety

From the Sa Ky pier, I took a local bus back to the bus terminal and checked in Gia Thanh Dat Hotel near the railway station. These photos were taken in Quang Ngai in the evening.
