Day 9
18 Dec 2023
Port Sa Ky - Quang Ngai - Sa Huynh
Waking up and looking out at the sky, the weather was fairly good this morning with partly cloudy sky and the water in the pier was calm. So I decided to checked again whether the ferry service would resumed.
The ferry to Ly Son cross an open sea. If the crew feel unsafe to sail out to sea due to rough sea condition, then that decision must be respected. I had learned during my Navy days, always respect and do not defy the power of nature.
I took a morning walk to this pier to check the status of the ferry. The ferry service remained suspended. And I decided to walk around Sa Ky town. The streets were still quiet.
I love to observe the human activities especially in the local wet market. The local market best represent and reflect how the local live.
I took a local bus back to Quang Ngai and at the bus terminal, I boarded another bus to Sa Huynh.
It was an hour journey on a highway. I checked into a Binh Minh Motel, along the main road for convenience. Had a simple and yet tasty lunch of pork chop at a local shop
Started my 3 km trek to see Sa Huynh Salt Field, very much an acclaimed site by many Vietnamese travel documentary. Along the way, the numerous ponds of fish farms spread over this vast lagoon are spectacularly scenic.
Alas, it wasn't the mining season. What I saw was only shiny ponds and the mined salt cover in canvas. I didn't get to see the women mining the salt like photo I have seen on the internet and travel brochures.
(These photos are from the Web.)
I walked around the beaches which was highly acclaimed, but it wasn't up to my expectation. The beach was dirty and abandoned. The effort I put in wasn't worth coming here. Local said come after March. Nevertheless, the travel experience is still satisfying.
These photos are taken from different part of Sa Huynh.
