Germany D2 Cologne Dec 2022

 1st Dec 2022

Day 2

Cologne or Koln

Cologne is a 2000 year old city spanning the Rhine River in Germany. It is a cultural hub for the region with many landmarks dating back to the medieval day. Yes, cologne is a fragrance produced in the city since 1709 and 'cologne" has since come to be a generic term.

As it was winter here, the daylight hours were shorter and I will be touring this old historic part of the town on foot, walking along the Rhine River, and as a nature lover, a walk in the public park is a must.

The prominent landmarks in Cologne is the Cologne Cathedral and the Hohenzollern Bridge that spans Rhine River.

All great city comes with great garden. In Cologne its the "Flora und Botanischer Garten"

Autumn had passed, the leaves had turn yellow to brown and some tress had completely shed their leaves. Great artistes were inspired by the beauty of autumn and it reflects the cycle of life. How the four seasons demonstrates the resilience of nature and renewal. Autumn is my favourite season. I find walking in the park at this time is so refreshing and revitalising.

Nearby was the Sculptor Park, "Koln Skulptur"

I continued my relaxing walk and crossed the bridge "Zoobrucke" to the other side of Rhine River. There are more parks along the river bank. Here, the skyline of Cologne are more defined, but with the the hazy sky, the view look gloomy. I had good view of Rhine River, the many bridges and the river traffic as well.

Another huge garden "Rhein Park"

It was very tiring but the beautiful garden had been inspiring. Its time to walked across Hohenzoller Bridge, a Cologne landmark.

It has become very fashionable especially in Europe for loving partners to put locks on the bridge and then throw away the keys.

Sunset here was around 5 pm. My legs can only carry me for so long and its time to have a German "Schweinshaxe" for dinner.
