Day 3
Cologne
Cologne Cathedral "Koln Dom" is a Roman Catholic church. It is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and features twin towers with height of 515 feet. It was designated a UNESCO Site. The construction started in 1248 and took centuries to complete due to stoppages and fund shortages.
This is truly a human masterpiece. Until one stands near the cathedral and views inside the Cathedral, only then can one realised the humongous size of this magnificent building. It represents human creativity, craftmanship and intelligence.
In the month of December, Cologne Christmas markets spring up in many public squares, transforming the city into picturesque stores with vibrant colours, enchanting lights, lively music and create an air of festive spirits. The stores sold traditional German foods and drinks. It is definitely a German way of life. Walking inside these open air markets like Neumarket and Heumarket is enriching and educational.
