It was a short
vacation planned around my off-duty flying period. The purpose of the visit to
Siem Reap was to see the famous Angkor Wat. Only when I started reading up, I
realized there are so many temples in Cambodia, some even older than Angkor
Wat. We also spent a day walking around Siem Reap including the night market
and eateries. Another day was spent on the river cruise to view Cambodia water villages
and their way of life.

We joined a
local tour and went to the following temples.
Angkor Wat
This is the
most famous temple built in the 12th century for Hindu god Vishnu.
Subsequent Khmers dedicated this temple to Buddhism.

Ta Prohm
Temple
One of the largest temples built around the 12th century. This was also where the movIe “The Tomb Raider” was filmed.

Bayon Temple.
This temple was built around the 13th century. Its distinct feature is the multitude of smiling faces carved over 200 stone towers. Here we watched sunset in Siem Reap
