Huangshan
18 Dec 2012 to 22 Dec
After many
years of dreaming climbing Huangshan, I finally embarked on this trip during of
off days between flying duties. The
schedule was focus and tight with little room for delay and disruption. We
planned for 4 nights on Huangshan. It was from Home to Huangshan, stayed on
mountain and then returned home directly.
I took the
midnight flight out of Singapore to Shanghai, arriving Pudong early in the
morning. From the airport, we took a
taxi to Shanghai South Bus Terminus. From there, it was a five hours bus ride
to Huangshan City. Then follow by
another hour taxi to Tangkou, where visitors to Huangshan usually start the
climb from here. We took a local taxi to Huangshan Cable car station. There the
Park bus brought us to Yuping Cable Car Station. It was almost 4pm.
The view
from the cable car up to Jade Screen Station was breathtaking.
From here
it was estimated to be 2 to 3 hours walk to our first stop, Baiyun Hotel. I was
really mesmerized by the scenic views and started taking photo; almost forget
the sunset was beating us into darkness.
We had no
choice but to walk in the dark with torchlight. It was cold and windy and at
one point had been confused by signage and had some uncomfortable moment. We finally reached Baiyun Hotel with great
relief.
Day 2
Basically,
Huangshan is a big mountain range with peaks up to 6000 feet. Areas are names as West Sea, North Sea, East Sea as well as Heavenly
Sea which was where I was at this time.
It was
winter and there were some snowing over the night. We were well clothed and
equipped with special shoes and walking stick. The temperature was slightly
below freezing. Today we trekked around Heavenly Sea starting from Bright Hill
Peak.
In the
evening, we watched beautiful sunset from Bright Hill peak
