USA- LAS VEGAS - GRAND CANYON – YELLOWSTONE- MAY 2014

LAS VEGAS - GRAND CANYON – YELLOWSTONE

13 to 26 May 2014

Yellow stone had been on my travelling list for a very long time.  A substantial effort has been used to plan this holiday. To optimize the time, Las Vegas and Grand Canyon were included in these 2 weeks.

There was lots of driving, covering the states of Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Wyoming and Montana.

We took off from Singapore for Los Angeles on 13 May 2014. From here, we took Delta Express on a short flight to Las Vegas, arriving around 1730 on the same date, 13 May.

From Las Vegas Airport we rented a Chevrolet Impala and drove into Las Vegas Hotel, Harrah's.

Las Vegas was built on a desert, primarily popular for gambling, entertainment and nightlife.  I was here a few times but it was Lynn first.

Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, 20 miles wide with height over 6000 feet. The Colorado River flows through the canyon. The Canyon had existed more than 70 million years. We will be covering the Southern Rim  during our 2 days.

On the way to Yellowstone, we toured the Antelope Canyon. Though there were many more interesting landmarks, we didn’t have time to see.

Prior to entering Yellowstone National Park, we spent a day viewing the beautiful Grand Teton Park.

We had 5 good days to enjoy Yellowstone.

Wikipedia…Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468.4 sq mi (8,983 km2),[3] comprising lakes, canyons, rivers, and mountain ranges.[10] Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent. The caldera is considered a dormant volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years.[13] Well over half of the world's geysers[14][15] and hydrothermal features[16] are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone. The park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining nearly-intact ecosystem in the Earth's northern temperate zone.[17] In 1978, Yellowstone was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
