HUANGSHAN 2ND TRIP NOV 2013. LOTUS PEAK AND TIANHAI

 HUANGSHAN 2nd Trip

10TH TO 16th Nov 2013

Our first trip to Huangshan was in winter, Dec 2012. Though winter view of Huangshan was unique and special, but we were hampered by bad weather and poor visibility. At the same time, the Western area was closed. Overall not much was achieved on the four nights we were up at the mountain. Motivated by the beautiful scenery we saw last year, it was only natural we were back again to enjoy the famous mountain one more time.

This trip to Huangshan was similar to the first Huangshan trip. The main difference was this time; we stayed in Tangkou on date of arrival and start the climb on the next morning. This was definitely less hectic. We also decided to stay at different hotels up on the mountain. Also we only took a backpack each with just enough clothing. It was autumn, the weather was cool in the low teens. Our accommodations are:

Day 1 and 5 Hotel Ala at Tangkou

Day 2           Hotel Baiyun

Day 3 and 4 Hotel Xihai

Upon arrival in Shanghai Pudong, we retraced our journey to Tangkou. Instead of  going up to Huangshan, we stayed a night in Tangkou. We had a good dinner and bought some necessities for the climb.

Day 2

Lotus Peak and Heavenly Sea

We took the Yuping Cableway up to Yuping Station. We were on the cableway before 8am. It was still misty.  We track to towards Yuping Peak (1716m) and the famous Guest-Greeting Pine.

Our plan was to climb the highest peak on Huangshan, Lotus Peak with an elevation of 1864 metres. On the ascent, the weather was occasional low scattered cloud. The path up was concrete steps with railings. Some points were narrow and sometime steep. Otherwise, it was not very difficult.
