Luoyang
city has been the capital of nine dynasties in China. It was the centre of
politics, economy and culture in China for a total of over 1500 years and home
to over hundred of emperors. Luoyang has strategic geographical location. It
lies in the Central Plains surrounded by mountains which were natural defense against
invasions.
It is also
an important Buddhist centre and also considered a starting point of the Silk
Route. Taoism originated in Luoyang and Shaolin Kung Fu was also its
birthplace. Three great Chinese inventions were created in Luoyang. There was
gunpowder, printing and papermaking.
Longmen
Grottoes is a UNESCO Heritage Site. It has 2300 grottoes and niches, more than
40 crematory urns, 25,000 inscribed stone tablets and over 100,000 Buddhist
images and statues.
Guanlin Temple and Tomb
Guanin
Temple is dedicated to Guanyu, a famous general in the early Shu State of the Three
Kingdoms period. Guanlin is also the tomb of Guanyu. In history, Guanyu was
favoured by the emperor as well as commoners and is deified and worshipped all
over China and oversea Chinese.
Luoyang
Peony Flower Show
A wonderful
display of China’s national flower in well laid out gardens and the season last
from April to May. The place was really crowded with many local tourists at
this time.
