Day 3
5 Feb 2015
Danang—Hoi An City
Hoi An Town
is an exceptionally well preserved example of SE Asian trading port dating back
from the 15th to the 19th Century. Its building and its street
plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to
produce this unique UNESCO World Heritage Site. (Quoted from Vietnam Guide)
Hoi An is a
peaceful town and can be viewed on foot.
We saw old town architecture, Buddhist and Taoist Shrines, French
colonial houses, Japanese bridge, art galleries and old canals. Not to forget
the local handicrafts shops. Lanterns are popular.
There are
numerous Chinese ethnic clans associations. This reflects the Chinese
traditions are very strong here. And the clans appear to be outperforming one
another in the building structures.
