12-SILK ROAD TOUR
JIAYUGUAN
TO ZHANGYE
30 Sep 2014
This morning we went to Jiayuguan ancient city. The Jiayu Pass was also a vital
traffic fort along the Silk Road.
The
fortress at Jiayuguan is situated at the west end portion of the Great Wall of
China built by the Ming Dynasty. Jiayuguan consisted of three defense lines, an
inner fort, and outer fort and a moat. Within the fort are temples, opera house
and pavilions.

The
afternoon, the bus took us to scenic Danxia National Geopark near Zhangye. It
was over 2 hours journey. The beautiful and colourful landscape is the result
of erosion of sandstone and mineral deposits over millions of years.
