YOGYAKARTA-DIENG PLATEAU-JUL 2014

We spent the afternoon on Dieng Plateau.  Here we saw Sikidang Crater, Lake Telogo Warno and Arjun Temple.

Dieng Plateau is northwest of Yogyakarta, about 3 hours by car. This plateau has elevation over 6000 feet. The drive there gave us a glimpse of rural Java. We saw Java is densely populated with houses very close to roads. Looking from the car, we saw vast rolling hills of vegetables fields. Most land is cultivated.                                                                                                                                    

Dieng is also an active volcanic region and the smell of sulphur is ever present particularly around the geothermal areas.  There are lakes and caves too. There are many Hindu temples built around the 8^th century, most are in ruins.
