Day 6 Tour

Day trip to Montenegro

19 Oct 2015

Dubrovnik to Kotor and Budva and back to Dubrovnik

Montenegro was formally part of Yugoslavia and become independent only in 2007. It is surrounded by 5 countries. Our day tour included sightseeing in Kotor, a UNESCO sites and Budva.

Route Map

The tour bus drove along the fjord-like and beautiful Bay of Kotor, mountain on one side and the sea on the other. The views are stunning with houses on hillsides overlooking the blue water bay.

Oil Town Kotor is fortified by city walls and the building are well preserved. Most of the walls were erected during the Venetian rule although the Roman, Byzantine and Austrian were also involved. The walls stretched over the mountains. This fortification is listed as World Heritage site.

Old town

We took a ferry around Bay of Kotor and landed on a small island with a prominent “Our Lady of the Rocks” Church.

Views from the cathedral on the island

After Kotor, we drove to Budva. It too has an old town, fortress, churches and beautiful seafront.

Budva seafront and beaches are popular with tourists

To reduce travelling time, the bus went on a ferry to bypass the Bay of Kotor.  We had a view of Budva from the Adriatic Sea.
